Our loft studio, Loft in the Woods, is a spacious, beautifully finished, flexible lodging option ideal for families, teams/clubs, small or larger groups. The flexibility of the loft studio’s open space is perfect for merging training and getting a good night’s sleep. Both the cabin and studio loft rentals connect quickly with nearby Birkie cross-country ski trail and CAMBA mountain bike trails!

Start Line Cabin Rental welcomes you to enjoy year round trailside lodging in our luxury cabin for rent in Cable, Wisconsin. The cabin rental is a rare gem in Wisconsin’s Northwoods with attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship. This is trailside vacation lodging designed with the needs of active guests and families in mind. The cabin’s living space is open and gracious with high vaulted ceiling and picture windows that overlook the Birkie Trail and forest at the start of the Birkie Ski Trail in Cable, WI. The cabin walls were built using reclaimed wood, helping us stay Green.
The gourmet kitchen, with peninsula concrete counter top, is the perfect spot for enjoying meals with family and friends. Adhering to a training diet or maintaining healthy eating for the family should be easy during your stay with us. We have you covered from dawn to dusk, from morning coffee grinder & pot through evening corkscrew. We provide complimentary coffee beans and assorted teas. There is WiFi and WiFi enabled Smart TV in the cabin. The entry area, with ample closet, has comfortable bench seating and overlooks the ski and mountain bike trails. Look out the window and anticipate your day playing in the woods.
We designed the cabin rental with an open floor plan to maintain spacious feel and flexibility. We can accommodate 4-8 guests depending on sleeping preferences. There are 2 full beds that are separated from each other and from the living area by privacy curtains. The living area in the cabin has a queen-sized sleeper sofa. The loft has a full futon and a cozy sitting area. In the entry, there is a day bed perfect for daydreaming or could pinch hit as an overflow sleeping space. The full bath, shower & tub, is beautifully designed using reclaimed tiles in creative mosaic.
Our studio lodging space is called the Loft in the Woods and is the perfect compliment to our Start Line Cabin rental on the property.
The Loft in the Woods is a loft studio space. Flexible design allows arrangement of space to suit your vacation needs. Beautifully finished with fine craftsmanship. Sit on the balcony with a book and coffee or glass of wine. Plenty of gear storage. Multiple amenities: WiFi, Smart TV, central heat and AC.
Guests have exclusive use of the Loft in the Woods. If guests book START LINE INN along with the Loft in the Woods, have the best of both worlds with gourmet kitchen ideal for large group meals. Do not fret any equipment needs as Mike can help you at START LINE SERVICES, Bike and Ski Service Center. You have access to waxing stations, bike stand and secure storage. Parking for several vehicles. Rustic surface tennis court can be used for training. Mountain bike and XC trail access, ski/bike in/out.
The Loft in the Woods is an ideal for families, teams/clubs, small or larger groups. The flexibility of the open space is perfect for merging training and getting a good night’s sleep. The sleeping arrangements include a full-sized futon couch/sleeper, 4 twin beds and a convertible sofa. Additional twin cots are available also.

Start Line Inn & Loft in the Woods are the closest lodging to the start of the American Birkebeiner XC Ski Race in Cable, Wisconsin. Affectionately known as The Birkie, it is the largest XC race in the United States. Numerous other Cable, WI events also take place just out our door: mountain bike races, trail runs, high school and junior national XC ski competitions. Perfect location for Silent Sport enthusiasts. Ski & bike in/out lodging in Cable, WI. On the Birkie Trail. On single track CAMBA (Chequemagon Area Mountain Bike Association) Trail system, over 300 miles to enjoy. Step out the door to enjoy hiking or snowshoeing and the forest. Road cyclists can roll out the driveway and choose from many scenic routes with minimal traffic. Water sports are just several minutes away by car. Play hard by day and enjoy cabin relaxing in the evening.
Guests have exclusive use of our secure wax hut: heated & well-ventilated, ample lighting, 2 forms, Bluetooth radio and plenty of room for ski, bike and gear storage. Bike & XC Ski Shop at lower level of cabin rental. There is a rustic-surface tennis court.
American Birkebeiner Trailhead/Birkie Start. The Birkie is committed to keeping you on the snow even if Mother Nature does not provide. Early Bird skiing on man-made snow starts mid-November.
